For the third year running, Filmaporto will grant five grants, each worth 20,000 euros, as part of its programme supporting the development and production of film and audiovisual projects in the city. Applications are open from 29 May to 23 June and details can be consulted here.
Filmaporto scholarships are aimed at short and feature-length fiction, documentary or animated films; experimental films and/or essay-films; and series for television, web or other audiovisual platforms.
For the third consecutive year, three Neves scholarships and two Pascaud scholarships will be awarded. These grants — named after the founders of Neves & Pascaud, the first company to screen films to the public in Porto — are targeted at different candidates based on location. Neves scholarships are open to artists, directors and producers who live in Porto, while Pascaud scholarships are open to artists, directors and producers living outside the municipal area. Applications will be evaluated by a jury composed of the filmmakers Filipe Melo, Leonor Teles and João Gonzalez.
The programme aims to drive the development of films produced entirely in Porto and provide opportunities for businesses and technical workers connected to the city’s audiovisual sector. The projects supported in 2022 were: “Marias”, by Tânia Dinis; “A História do Futebol Esteve Aqui”, by José Magro; “Florescência – Infinito Infinito”, by Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela; “Volta”, by Pedro Lino; and “A Emancipação de Mimi”, by Marcelo Pereira.
