For the fourth year in a row, Filmaporto will award five grants, each worth 20,000 euros, to film projects developed in the city of Porto. The grants will be allocated via a competition open to proposals in the areas of fiction, documentary or animated film, series, experimental cinema and essay. Applications open on 27 May and close at 6pm on 21 June. The full guidelines can be consulted on the Filmaporto — film commission website.
As in previous years, there are two funding modalities, targeted at different audiences and named after the two founders of Neves & Pascaud, the first company to show films to the public in Porto. The Neves grant is for artists and filmmakers living in the council area of Porto and production companies based in the council areas of Porto, Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia, working with artists and filmmakers resident in the council area of Porto; while the Pascaud grant is destined for artists and directors living outside the council area of Porto and production companies based in the council areas of Porto, Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia who are working with artists and filmmakers living outside the council area of Porto.
This year, three Neves grants and two Pascaud grants will be awarded, with candidates evaluated by a jury composed of Luís Urbano (film producer), Melanie Pereira (filmmaker) and Tomás Paula Marques (filmmaker and visual artist).
This funding programme aims to drive the development of films produced entirely in Porto and provide opportunities for businesses and crew workers connected to the city’s audiovisual sector. Last year’s programme supported projects by Tânia Dinis, José Magro, Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela, Pedro Lino and Marcelo Pereira.
