Filmaporto brings a portrait of the last pre-internet childhoods to Batalha
The next session of Filmaporto — the film commission at Batalha Centro de Cinema — takes place on 12 June at 7.15 pm and will be dedicated to filmmaker Alberto Seixas’s feature film, A Viragem do Milénio.
The film follows Maria and her group of friends in 1999, in a small town in the Portuguese countryside, during a summer marked by carefree afternoons, discoveries and little adventures. The tranquillity of childhood is, however, interrupted by an unexpected unease: the fear that the so-called ‘Y2K bug’, widely reported on television, might trigger the end of the world.
Caught between fear and curiosity, the children seek to make the most of what they believe might be their final days. The result is an intimate and nostalgic portrait of the last pre-internet childhoods, evoking a time when days seemed endless and every moment brimming with possibilities.
The screening will be attended by Alberto Seixas, who will introduce the film and take part in a discussion with the audience after the screening.
Admission is free, subject to collecting a ticket on the day of the screening. Each person may collect up to two tickets, with attendance subject to the venue’s capacity.
