On 19 April, Filmaporto — film commission presents a screening at Batalha Centro de Cinema dedicated to the portfolio of Porto film production company Olhar de Ulisses. The session begins at 5.15pm and will be introduced by André Guiomar, Luís Costa, Miguel da Santa and Tiago Carvalho on behalf of the company.

Founded in Porto in 2019, Olhar de Ulisses focusses on the production of fiction and documentary short and feature films. Bringing together film directors, technicians and producers, the company foregrounds a collaborative approach at every stage of production, encouraging the development of new projects and the circulation of novel perspectives on cinema.

The screening features four films from the production company’s portfolio that take a range of approaches to the body, memory and identity. In God-and-a-Half, by Margarida Assis, a man walks through an abandoned hospital and comes across someone from his past, with memories being reconstructed after years of silence. Muscled Joy, by Jonathas de Andrade, explores the tension, both physical and symbolic, associated with strength in the sporting world, by looking at aspects of the day-to-day routine and collective resistance practiced by residents of the Parisian suburb of Noisy-le-Sec.

In Light Was a Break, by Luís Costa, a sleepless woman confronts a childhood trauma, amid fragments of family memories and places marked by solitude. Then Ofélia, by Carlos Lobo, follows two teenagers on a collision course in a conservative society, where the process of growing up is full of moral and emotional tensions.

Admission is free, subject to ticket collection on the day, limited to two tickets per person.
